Why Austin chefs switch to Native Roots

Most microgreens in Austin kitchens come from a distributor in California, harvested days ago and sitting in transit. Here's what changes when your supplier is also your grower.

Freshness you can taste

Your order is harvested the day before delivery, sometimes the morning of. Distributors can't do that. The difference in flavor and texture is immediate.

Varieties they don't carry

Popcorn shoots, chervil, heirloom cilantro, red-veined sorrel, custom mixes. If it's not in a distributor's catalog, it's probably in ours. Or we'll grow it for you.

A grower who knows your menu

We visit your kitchen before your first order. We learn what you're building and bring suggestions. You text us directly, not an account rep who visits once a quarter.

What we grow in Austin

20+ varieties grown vertically in our Austin warehouse. All harvested to order using coconut fiber, seed, and water. Nothing else.

Cilantro

Bright, clean flavor. Our best seller, a staple in Latin, Asian, and modern American kitchens.

Micro Basil

Intensely aromatic. Perfect where a full basil leaf is too much: tasting menus, Italian, Mediterranean.

Rainbow Mix

Bold color and layered texture with bull's blood beet or edible flower petals. A visual statement on any plate.

Popcorn Shoots

Sweet, delicate, and unexpected. Guests ask about them every time.

Mizuna

Peppery and feathery. Pairs well with Japanese and modern American preparations.

Sunflower

Nutty, hearty, and satisfying. Versatile across cuisines and a consistent crowd favorite.

Don't see what you need? Ask us. We can grow it.

Questions from Austin chefs

What's the minimum order?

No formal minimums. Most Austin clients start with 2–3 containers per week and scale from there. We work around your menu and service schedule.

How fresh is the product when it arrives?

Everything is harvested to order. Your trays are cut specifically for your delivery, not sitting in a warehouse. Typical shelf life is 6 days; we've seen up to 13 days. That's 2–3x what a distributor can offer.

How many times per week do you deliver in Austin?

We deliver 5 days a week across Austin. High-volume clients can receive twice-weekly deliveries.

Do you carry heirloom or unusual varieties?

Yes, that's a core part of what we do. We stock 20+ varieties including heirlooms and unusual options most distributors don't carry. If you need something specific, we can grow it within three weeks.

Can I sample before committing?

Always. We'll visit your kitchen with four varieties: a wow, an easy, a familiar, and a wildcard. You taste and decide. No pressure, no commitment.

Are your microgreens organic?

We use organic growing methods: coconut fiber, seed, and water only, no unnecessary inputs. We're not certified organic, but no client has ever required certification.

What kinds of Austin restaurants do you work with?

Primarily fine dining restaurants and full-service hotels. If you're serious about plating and presentation, we're probably a good fit.

Ready to see it in your kitchen?

We'll bring samples to your Austin kitchen. No commitment, no pitch. Just product. If it's not right for your menu, no hard feelings.
